Students of the MA Sociology do not necessarily need a German language certificate, but must be able to furnish proof that their English language proficiency meets the International Track's minimum entry requirements, such as a TOEFL (iBT) with a minimum of 87 points, TELC English with a minimum grade of B2, IELTS with an overall band score of 6.5 or an equivalent English language test. A degree from a programme taught completely in English is also deemed sufficient proof of English proficiency.

Academic Admission

Students must have an undergraduate degree in sociology or a related discipline with at least three years of higher education (usually a Bachelor's degree). Related disciplines could be Social Sciences, Political Science, Ethnology, or Gender Studies. Applicants must meet the following subject-specific requirements from their transcript of records (or similar documents): Sociological theory: knowledge of classical and current sociological theories, their comparison and their exemplary application (10 credit points) Methods of empirical social research: basic knowledge of different methods of empirical social research, their application, potential and reflections (10 credit points) Specialised sociology: knowledge and application of central concepts, theories and empirical methods of a relevant specialised sociology (10 credit points) General social science or basic knowledge of another social science field or related discipline (10 credit points) Competencies in all four areas must be shown in the transcript of records.

APS Certificate

An APS certificate is required for applicants who have completed their qualifying education in India, China, or Vietnam.
